CBD pet products are supplements, not medicines, and research into CBD in animals is still developing, so the most important step is the first one on this list. Here are our tips for introducing a pet CBD product responsibly.
Talk to the Vet
The first step is to talk to your vet. Let them know you are considering a CBD product for your pet, and ask whether it is appropriate given your pet’s age, health and any medication they take. Your vet can also advise on feeding amounts. Never use CBD in place of veterinary care or treatment your vet has prescribed.
Choose a Product Made for Pets
Only use CBD products made specifically for animals. Human products can contain ingredients that are unsuitable for pets (xylitol, for example, is toxic to dogs). Look for a product with no artificial additives or flavours and with published lab reports. Give the supplement at the same time each day so it becomes routine, and watch for any changes in appetite, behaviour or digestion. If anything concerns you, stop and speak to your vet.
